Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to be a fashion/surface designer.
Hello, I'm Tássia. I was born and raised in Brazil, and I have always dreamed of working in fashion. I was a very creative child. I grew up in Rio de Janeiro but moved to São Paulo to study fashion. I graduated in 2006, but only in 2020 did I start working exclusively with prints. After becoming a mother, I fell in love with the children's world, so I dedicated myself entirely to this field. Today, my specialty is creating prints for children aged 0 to 10 years. I am passionate about this universe, and my goal is to print and brighten up the world.
Who or what influences your art?
My biggest influences are Brazilian artists like Inserti, who has an incredible style and knows how to work with colors in a fun way; Tarsila do Amaral, I've always loved her works and simple lines (I am passionate about the modernist period); Henri Matisse is my favorite artist of all time. I am also greatly influenced by my 5-year-old son Heitor; his tastes, his drawings, and the music he listens to bring me a lot of inspiration.
What mediums do you use to create your art?
Nowadays, the main media is digital. But, when I want to step out of the ordinary, I paint with watercolor and pastel chalk; these are my preferred choices.
Your artwork is perfect for the children's market. Tell us what brands or products you have created artwork for in that sector.
I have created everything from packaging to books. My main focus for many years was fashion. I designed many garments and fabrics. Recently, I ventured into stationery and decoration.
You also have designed for your own line of fabrics. Tell us about that.
I design fabrics and sell them on my own website. I have a partnership with a wonderful company that provides natural fabrics. Over the years, I noticed that some customers needed to buy ready-made fabric. They sought speed and not everyone wanted exclusivity. I also always wanted to have my own ideas available. Today I create much more for my own brand than on demand.
Do you work with an art agent or do you approach companies on your own?
I have always wanted to have an agent; someone to help me reach different brands that seek designs in my style. I haven't had the opportunity to meet someone yet. Maybe it will work out in the future. Today, I approach companies myself, and offer my services, and some companies find me through social media.
Would you like to share any advice you have for designers who are thinking about licensing their artwork?
My advice is for the artist to be authentic, be themselves, and not change just because they haven't found their market yet. There is a market for all kinds of art. Sometimes it takes time, but it will be very worthwhile to remain unique.
What's next for you in your artistic endeavors? Are there any other companies/brands you would like to collaborate with?
I am looking for partnerships with children's brands from around the world. I am already closing some partnerships with brands from Portuguese-speaking countries and hope to expand to more locations around the world soon.
